About the Area
There are 3 good FREE kids’ clubs on the Parc: Bubbles (1-4s); Pirate Club (5-9s); Barracudas (10-14s). There's also a weekly Crystal Fiesta Party where the children can meet Max, Patch and Lily! I think your kids may only be interested in the Barracudas - it’s a quick way for children to make friends.
Facilities on site: There is a new supermarket on the site (bear right past Reception about 40 yards) which has improved greatly and is run by ‘Casino’. They now have a lot of choice at reasonable prices and there is fresh bread and croissants baked during the day. The Butchers is also very good value and sells freshly made BBQ food as well as hot chicken and chips and other deli-style things. Check the opening times as they sometimes close at lunchtime!
If they are closed you can head out left out of La Carabasse and go about 300 yards (over the roundabout) and you’ll find 'Huit-a-Huit' the local supermarket. Please be aware that the larger French supermarkets do NOT supply plastic bags to carry your shopping. There is a larger supermarket with a far greater selection of stuff (Hyper U) on the way to Cap D’Agde.
Where to Go & Where to Eat
There are 2 bars at La Carabasse - one at the front of the Parc called L’Atoll, which also has nice restaurant and is very child friendly. Most of the English families congregate at L’Atoll bar for Happy Hour between 7pm and 8pm and then go out to eat or go back to their caravans and BBQ the night away!
The other bar is at the pool area which has fast-food outlets to the side (pizza, burger chips etc.). The evening entertainment takes place on the stage in front of the pool area.
Your caravan is behind the stage, but you’re far enough away so you shouldn’t be able to hear much noise. The entertainment finishes at 12 midnight prompt.
Other restaurants can be found on the road just past the 'Huit-a-Huit' supermarket on either side. You’ll also find lots of other clothes shops and little outlets selling all sorts of holiday paraphernalia!
L’Amandine is the best restaurant in Vias and is run by Gillian and Pascal. Gillian is a lovely friendly lady from Northern Ireland and Pascal is a terrific French chef. It is child friendly and lovely to sit outside (especially on Friday nights when there is a music event in the town square). It is understandably very popular so it’s best to book a table.
Market days in Vias are Wednesday and Saturday from 9.30 am -1 pm and it does get very busy so it’s not always easy to park your car unless you get there early.
The road past 'Hui-a-Huit' leads directly to Farinette beach - about a 10 minute walk from La Carabasse.
You can also reach the beach through the gate at the back of the campsite in the right hand corner, but you will need to ask at Owners' Reception for the security code for the gate.
You can take a stroll or bike ride down the Canal du Midi (turn right out of La Carabasse). The old town of Vias is just a 5 minute drive away (12 minute walk). The medieval city of Carcassone is a 45 minute drive. The picturesque towns of Beziers and Sete are a 25 minute drive (Sete has miles and miles of empty beaches). The lovely city of Montpellier is only 40 minutes away and has great shops! Cap D’agde (15 minute drive) has a beautiful harbour surrounded by lovely seafood restaurants. For accurate directions please ask at Reception.
There is a also the busy Europark funfair close to La Carabasse, which may be worth a visit. Turn right out of La Carabasse and it’s 150 yards on your left.
