Its northern most coastline is on the Bay of Biscay. Spain shares land borders with Gibraltar to the south, Portugal to the west and France and Andorra to the north-east.
The country enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travellers, and is one of the most visited countries on the planet.
Since the 1970's, holiday home rental in Spain has proven a popular holiday choice for many Brits and still does to this day, especially with budget airlines offering cheap and easily accessible flights.
So, whether it's a quick weekend break in Barcelona or a fortnight in Majorca, Spain is ideal. For last minute deals we have also put together a Spanish late deals section.
Spain is home to 17 regions and 50 provinces, with perhaps Catalonia (Costs Brava & Costa Dorada), Valencia (Costa Blanca), Murcia (Costa Calida) and Andalusia (Costa Almeria & Costa del Sol) being the most well-known resorts; all on the Mediterranean coast.
Barcelona is the most cosmopolitan city of Spain, but there are many other jewels in this country's crown, including Madrid, Seville, Bilbao and Valencia.
If you're looking for something a little less touristy, then why not try Navarra? Bordering France and the Pyrenees mountains, the many villages that make up Navarra have a French influence. This region is great for those who love outdoor activities; walkers, cyclists and climbers.
Of course, not everyone is looking for a hot, beach holiday and with many popular ski resorts from the Pyrenees to the Sierra Navada, Spain is ideal for those too. Baqueira-Beret, Spain's biggest and most visited ski resort with 153km of pistes, is found less than four hours from both Barcelona and Zaragoza, in the Aran and Àneu Valleys of the Pyrenees. Sierra Nevada, the most southerly ski resort in Europe, is located outside Granada on the northern slopes of Veleta. It is the highest ski resort in Spain with a season that can last from late November until early May. Being just a short drive from the Mediterranean coast, you could ski in the morning and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon!
As well as mainland Spain, let's not forget the ever-popular Canary Islands. This cluster of Spanish islands is a firm favourite with Brits. Famous for their year-round sunshine, there are seven islands to choose from: Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria are best known, although El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera are just as exquisite.
Of course, there's also the Balearic Islands, which consist of Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza; well known by tourists for their great holiday resorts. Whether you want lively or peaceful and relaxing, you'll find it all here.
Here on our website we have properties listed in the Canaries, Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol, so why not take a look to find your perfect Spanish getaway.
