Wemyss Bay Holiday Park - Scotland
About the Area
Welcome to Wemyss Bay — Scotland’s Gateway to the IslesSet on the breathtaking Firth of Clyde, Wemyss Bay is a charming coastal village that captures the very best of Scotland’s west coast — sea views, scenic walks, outdoor adventures, and a warm local welcome. With its elegant Victorian architecture, easy island connections, and peaceful seaside atmosphere, Wemyss Bay is the perfect year-round destination for relaxation and discovery.
Just 50 minutes by train from Glasgow, visitors can easily combine a day of city shopping or culture with the calm of the coast. Excellent transport links also make it simple to explore nearby Ayrshire and the wider Clyde coast.
⸻
Timeless Coastal Charm
Once a favourite holiday retreat for Glasgow’s Victorian travellers, Wemyss Bay still retains its graceful seaside character. The village’s historic railway station, renowned for its sweeping glass and iron design, is one of the most beautiful in Scotland and leads directly to the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry terminal, the starting point for island adventures to the Isle of Bute.
Enjoy a walk along the promenade, take in sweeping views across to the Isles of Cumbrae and Bute, or simply sit back and watch the ferries drift across the water. Every sunset here feels like a postcard.
⸻
Outdoor Adventures All Year Round
Wemyss Bay and its surrounding countryside are a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Explore nearby Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, where miles of scenic trails wind through forests and moorland — perfect for walking, cycling, and wildlife spotting.
Golf by the Sea
The west coast is home to some of Scotland’s most scenic golf courses. Tee off at Skelmorlie Golf Club, a hillside course with panoramic views over the Clyde, or head to Rothesay Golf Club on the Isle of Bute — one of Scotland’s oldest. Further along the coast, golfers can enjoy championship-standard play at Largs or Gourock Golf Clubs, both offering a warm welcome to visitors.
Fishing and Coastal Leisure
For those who enjoy the peace and patience of fishing, the Clyde coast offers excellent opportunities all year round. Try shore fishing near Lunderston Bay or join a local sea angling trip for spectacular coastal views. Inland rivers and lochs also provide fine coarse and fly fishing, making Wemyss Bay an ideal base for anglers of all levels.
Swim by the Sea
A short drive north brings you to Gourock’s famous heated outdoor saltwater pool — Scotland’s oldest lido. Open during the warmer months, it offers a truly unique swim-with-a-view experience overlooking the Firth of Clyde.
⸻
Gateway to the Isles
From Wemyss Bay, a short ferry crossing takes you to the Isle of Bute, where you can explore the grand Mount Stuart House, stroll along sandy beaches like Ettrick Bay, or enjoy a round of seaside golf. Island hopping is easy and rewarding — perfect for families, couples, or solo explorers.
⸻
Eat, Relax, Explore
After a day outdoors, unwind with local hospitality. From cosy cafés and traditional pubs to nearby restaurants in Inverkip and Largs, there’s something for every taste. Enjoy freshly caught seafood, homemade baking, or simply a quiet coffee overlooking the water.
⸻
A Destination for Every Season
• Spring: Blossoming gardens and crisp coastal walks.
• Summer: Beach days, swimming, golf, and island adventures.
• Autumn: Golden hillsides, calm seas, and perfect fishing weather.
• Winter: Peaceful escapes, dramatic sunsets, and cosy fireside evenings.
Each season in Wemyss Bay brings new reasons to visit — whether for outdoor adventure, family fun, or simply the soothing sound of the waves.
⸻
Discover the Spirit of the Clyde Coast
From golf and fishing to island exploration, shopping trips to Glasgow, and swims under the open sky in Gourock, Wemyss Bay offers something for everyone. It’s more than just a stop on the way to the isles — it’s a destination in its own right, full of charm, colour, and coastal calm.
Wemyss Bay — where every journey begins with a view.
