St Andrews Holiday Park - Scotland

About the Area

Most people will have heard of St Andrews in connection with it being the 'home of golf', and the location of the famous Old Course. There is the oldest university in Scotland too and the students hugely contribute to the vibrant nature of the town. There is a plethora of bars, restaurants and shops giving plenty of choice for couples, friends and families.

The holiday park sits on the Fife Coastal Path, and we'd recommend using this path for a scenic walk in to St Andrews. Market St, the centre of the town, is just over a mile away and the old course around 1.5 miles.

If you're not a golfer or a student there are plenty of other things to do in the area. The Aquarium is an interesting visit on a rainy day, and the old cathedral and castle provide some interesting historical context to this special town.

A short drive away, next to The Dukes Golf Course is Craigtoun Country Park, an outdoor space with activities to suit all ages. There are lots of free activities or you can buy a pass and enjoy the miniature train, pedaloes within the extensively refurbished Dutch Village, go-karts and crazy golf. Take a picnic and enjoy a whole day here.

Nearby there is also the Scottish Deer Centre and the lovely Fife Zoo.

There are a number of other excellent golf courses in Fife, including Kings Barns and Dumbarnie Links, which although fairly new is making a name for itself.

A lovely afternoon in St Andrews might consist of a game of Putting at The Himalayas, a drink at The Deck in the Old Course Hotel overlooking the famous course, a meal at The Steak Barn and if you're walking back to the site we'd recommend calling in at Janetta's to choose an ice cream from their 75 or so flavours.

Also near this stretch of coastline is The East Neuk area of Fife, with the pretty villages of Pittenweem and Crail, and it's local pottery is worth a visit. If outdoor swimming is of interest, there are some tidal pools in this area, and often sauna's can be found near sheltered beaches. If you're after good Fish & Chips we'd recommend the award winning Wee Chippy in the harbour town of Anstruther, or enjoy a meal at The Rockies, part of Anstruther Golf Course. This restaurant has lovely views over to the Isle of May and possible sightings of dolphins and orcas in the warmer months. Boat trips to see the puffins are run during the summer.

Back on St Andrews Holiday Park, there is a bar/restaurant with food served and entertainment at the weekends. There's also a park, small amusement arcade and a pizza takeaway.
