About the Area

Set in a rural area, Clos du Thym offers a relaxing way of life; just sit back on the decking and take in the views - with a glass of red of course!

The site has 2 pools (one being just for the small ones) surrounded by palm trees not hotels. A children's play area and small animal area.

A new bar/restaurant/entertainment area opened in June 2014 (photo above). This bar/restaurant opens from June until September, with entertainment provided in the high season. Other bars and restaurants can be found locally.

Like many other sites in France the site is visited by the pizza van where they are made while you wait. There are many other places locally too including a small restaurant, which is just a 10 minute stroll from the site, offering reasonably priced meals, where you can eat under vines.

During the busier months there is some entertainment and a bar on site.

The holiday park is now open all year round, so if you are looking for a break or maybe a long term stay in the quieter months, this is possible if you want to escape the worst of the English weather.

Because of the micro-climate, temperatures in March/April and Oct/Nov can be in the high teens or low twenties; perfect for spring or autumn breaks. Surprisingly, Argeles is only a 2-3 hour drive from some ski-slopes of the Pyrenees so the home could be used as a base. Drive up, go skiing and come back for a warm up.

The Region

Argeles, which is the Languedoc region, can be found on the Mediterranean coast with approximately 7kms of sandy beach. Perpignan, the area's capital and nearest airport, is about 30 minutes drive, and the Spanish border about 40 minutes.

Along the coast (Cote Vermeille) are many old fishing ports; Banyuls, famous for its fortified wine, Port Vendres for its seafood restaurants on its quayside, and Collioure which is magical, with its old fort and tower overlooking the small bay, and with its many restaurants and cafes. Collioure has much history and is supposed to be one of the most photographed and painted places in France, Matisse and Picasso being two of its most famous visitors (sadly not now of course).

Argeles has three main areas; the port, the plage and the village:

The Port

With its marina and many yachts and sailing craft, the port is interesting to see - lottery winners only if you want to buy though! Surprisingly, for where it is, you can buy lunch e.g. moules and frites for about 8 Euros. At the start of the marina nearest the sea there are the pleasure craft, which act as a bus service calling into the ports along the coast. A single trip to Collioure is about 4 Euros, which takes about 20 minutes along the scenic coast. In the evening during the main months, live bands perform in the main square.

The Plage

The plage area is the busiest of the three areas. It has many restaurants and bars, some clubs and a casino. The lanes are where many of these are found including many different type of shop. At the end of the lanes is a pine woods with picnic areas, which gives welcome shade. Opposite the pines is a small amusement area with some small rides for the young ones and also a large carousel where the mums and dads can have a go.

The Village

The village dates back hundreds of years and has a slower pace, so you can sit in the street cafes and watch the world go by. It has a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays where you can buy fruit and veg, cheese, flowers etc. all locally grown/made. In the busier months they have the local sardanes dancers, which is a folk dance that you may join in if you wish.

Getting There/Local Transport

The nearest airport is Perpignan, which is 30 minutes from the site. Gerona is 1 hour from the site.

Car hire is available from these airports as well as Perpignan station. However, it is advisable to book in advance as early as possible.
