Poole is a lovely area to stay and provides both nightlife on the quay and beautiful beaches. It is just a short drive or taxi ride to the quay and the centre of the town, where there are some lovely restaurants and of course, shopping in the Dolphin Centre and the High Street. The Condor ferry runs out of Poole Quay to the Channel Isles for day trips, and there are also daily boat trips around the harbour and to and from Brownsea Island, another famous nature reserve.
Should you wish to go further afield and explore, there is the famous Sandbanks area about 6 miles on the other side of Poole where you can catch the chain ferry to take you across the water to Studland beach, and then through to Swanage, a picturesque seaside town.
If you then drive back to Poole via the Wareham Road, you will come across the beautiful Corfe Castle and also at Corfe Castle is the steam railway, which is another lovely day out. It runs from Corfe to Swanage and has full facilities on board.
Dorset has some of the best sandy beaches, all within driving distance of Rockley Park; Sandbanks, Bournemouth, Studland, Swanage, Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. Across the bay from Rockley is the RSPB nature reserve of Arne. A great day out either on foot or on your bike, take a picnic and your binoculars, but you will need to drive to Wareham to get to it, about a half hour drive. Weymouth is about a 40 minute drive and next to Portland Bill where the sailing took place in the recent Olympics.
For the kids there is Monkey World and Bovington Tank Museum (both close together). Poole pottery is on the Quay. Poultons Park is on the M27 towards Southampton, where there is a Peppa Pig world and of course to get there you have to drive through the New Forest, which is worth a stop on the way. A selection of leaflets will be available in the caravan which you are welcome to use to help plan your holiday.
Depending on what you want from your holiday i.e. a quiet, relaxing rest or a mixture of a rest but a bit of nightlife, you can get it all here.
