Westward Ho! 8 miles
Facing westwards into Bideford Bay, Surfers and swimmers, kayakers, and paddle boarders will love this long sandy stretch of sand. The main beach is backed by the grassland of Northam Burrows Country Park and the imaginatively named Pebble Ridge.


Instow - 10.6 miles
The popular Tarka Trail runs through Instow providing an easy way to explore on both foot or by bike. The trail is traffic free making it ideal for tiring out the kids and as it passes alongside the estuary, there are plenty of chances to spot wildlife and enjoy the breeze on a warm day. Alternatively, head down to the town’s beach, full of golden sand and large enough to accommodate everyone during the busier months, the beach area is perfect for building sandcastles, flying kites, or just plain old relaxing.


Bude - 17 miles
Bude maintains a perfect balance, large enough to hold a huge array of things to do, while also being not so large as to lose its traditional Cornish charm. There’s a nice selection of independent shops for you to explore and places to eat, giving a quiet, laid back feel to the town at the same time, there’s plenty for those who require a bit more excitement.
