About the Area
Le Bois Dormant is generally regarded as one of the best holiday parks in the Vendee, with excellent facilities and a great atmosphere. It is easily reached from St. Malo in just three hours. The area has a microclimate matching the South of France in terms of temperatures and hours of sunshine.
On site you will find a swimming pool complex with water slides, paddling pool and an indoor pool with a retractable roof. It also has a poolside bar with a Takeaway and evening entertainment. Adjacent are tennis courts, play areas and a large multi sports pitch with football, basketball and a French boules pitch. A recent addition this summer is an outdoor entertainments area with a covered stage, tables and chairs. There is a mini market for your early morning croissant, fresh bread, milk and groceries. At Reception you will find tourist information leaflets and very helpful bi-lingual staff.
The sister site of Le Bois Masson situated just across the road from the main entrance has a completely different personality to the more tranquil Le Bois Dormant. You can use the facilities on both sites. On Masson you will find a large pool complex with a restaurant and bar, and evening entertainment in the club. There are 3 children's clubs ranging from 1 year old to 14-16 year olds that meet during the day, six days a week, where your children can make new friends.
Also on Masson you will find the refurbished heated indoor swimming pool, which is great if you are holidaying at either end of the season, or if the weather turns wet! In the same complex you will find a small gym, sauna and steam room. For the ladies there is a beauty room for facials, manicures and massage at very reasonable costs. On Masson you are also able to hire bikes, so you could cycle to the beach instead of taking the car.
There are several supermarkets within 5 minutes of the site: Super U, Intermarche and Lidl.
The old town of St. Jean de Monts has a variety of shops, pharmacy, banks etc and a market is held each Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year. The seaside part of St. Jean has a wonderful stretch of safe sandy beaches with a huge choice of shops, restaurants and street entertainment during July and August.
Places to Visit and Things to Do:
Apremont is a quaint village with a chateau and a lake where you can swim, hire boats and canoes.
The island of Noirmoutier has lots of interesting things to see and, if the tide is right, you can cross via the causeway, but please check the tide tables! Here you will find Butterfly World, SeaWorld, a chateau and a superb market each Friday.
The town of St. Gilles, about 25 minutes down the coast, is an old fishing village with lots of interesting things to see and some very good shops and restaurants.
Les Sables Zoo is about an hours drive south but well worth the visit.
There are also many other places within half and hour to an hours drive from the site such Planete Sauvage safari park, golf, quad biking, horse riding, karting etc. All information will be found in Reception.
Check out the St. Jean de Monts tourist website or the Siblu website for more information and all you need to know about the area, events and what's on.
