About the Area

There is a small bar and restaurant on the site which serves good food at reasonable prices. The bar is small but friendly and is a pleasant place to relax in the evening. The restaurant balcony provides panoramic views over the Esterel Hills.

There is a children’s play area at the bottom of the site adjacent to the tennis courts and the Boules area. The site has two swimming pools, one which has a small paddling pool that is ideal for small children. Access to the pools and other site facilities are free to residents.

Camping le Dattier is located only 3.5 km from the sea and 2.5 km from the old town of Frejus, which was once a Roman city, with its ancient ruins, a medieval cathedral, winding streets and well kept beaches beside the Mediterranean sea. Frejus is on the Cote d'Azur and is within easy travelling distance of St Tropez, Cannes, Nice, Antibes, Monaco and Monte Carlo.

There is a well stocked supermarket opposite the site entrance which is open from 9am to 7.30pm Monday to Saturday. Adjacent to the supermarket is a large pharmacy and a Pizza shop.

The site is approximately a forty minute drive from Nice airport, with regular cheap flights from several UK airports. There is also a good public transport system with railway stations at Frejus and nearby St Raphael and a regular public bus service with a bus stop directly outside the site entrance.

Places to Visit

In Frejus visit the Roman Arena and the wine cooperative where you can take a container to fill with a good local wine of your own choice at reasonable prices. Apart from sandy beaches, there are numerous attractions in the area; at Frejus there is Aquatica, which is an aquatic theme park situated on the road to St Tropez. Adjacent to Aquatica is a large go kart track.

Also at Frejus is the Zoological Park, which has a drive through area and although a small zoo, it is well worth a visit. The military museum is also worth a visit.

Marineland at Antibes has an aquarium with a glass tunnel, through which you can walk and see the sharks and other marine life; there are also killer whales and dolphins which put on spectacular displays.

There are glass-bottomed boats at St Raphael and St Maxime. Scuba diving is available at Port Frejus and at Port Poussai which is situated between St Raphael and Agay. The area is a gourmet's paradise with countless restaurants serving up a wide choice of local cuisine that is both cheap and good quality.

Port Grimaud, on the way to St Tropez, is a town built around a network of canals much like Venice, and is an interesting place for a visit and a coffee in one of the waterside cafes.

Monaco Monte Carlo is well worth a visit just to see how the other half live. It is easily accessible by car with plenty of parking or by train from St Raphael. You can also get to St Tropez by boat from St Raphael and St Maxime. Details are available at the Gare Maritime at St Raphael.

At Grasse, drive to any of the large perfume manufacturers, which are well signposted and have organised tours, which end in their factory shops.

Ventigmelia in Italy, has Europe's largest market on Fridays. This is just over the French/Italian border past Menton. Use the motorway and set off no later than 8 am for ease of parking.
