Location

The mobile home is situated in the lovely 4-star Prairies Du Lac campsite, 2km from Apremont Lake (with a beach and much more!) in Pays de la Loire, Vendee. It is an hour drive south west of Nantes and 20 minutes from the Atlantic coast.

Camping Les Prairies du Lac is a residential campsite, meaning all of the plots are leased by the residents, many of whom live there for the entire summer season, or even all year round. There is not the normal transient feel of a campsite with tourists staying for a few days – and there is no weekly mass 'changeover. The site is mainly populated by retired British and French couples and their families.

The site is clean and well maintained with mature trees and shrubs. On-site amenities include:

. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools (with childproof gate)
. Children's playground
. Bar and restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating - breakfast is also served from 10am
. Occasional evening entertainment, including live performances by the lovely in-house staff
. Library, where you can share and swap books, DVDs and board games
. Several boule pitches
. Washing machines
. Additional showers and toilets

All facilities are private for residents only and the camp has secure gated access at the main entrance.

There is a strong sense of welcoming community here, instead of the impersonal nature of a holiday park. Fresh bread and croissants can be ordered the evening before from Kevin in the bar - and should have any problems, speak to any of the English-speaking staff, all of whom are super friendly.

The peaceful atmosphere on site, makes Prairies du Lac ideal for families with children or those wanting to get away from it all.

As well as the on-site restaurant, there are local bars and restaurants offering an alternative to your own BBQ and home-cooking.

The Vendee area possesses many riches, with beautiful landscapes, fabulous lakes, rivers and beaches, plenty of vineyards and a rich architectural heritage, as well as festivals, sports events and unique local gastronomy.

Local towns host markets with gifts, crafts and fresh produce.

Apremont is home to a 16th century chateau. The Lac du Apremont itself has a sandy beach and plenty of activities on offer, including wake boarding, pedaloes, paddle boarding and a giant inflatable obstacle course.

There is a boulangerie, Spar supermarket and pharmacy in Apremont too - for anything else, there is a huge shopping area in Aizenay (10km away).

Local beaches range from fabulous rock-pooling to long sandy stretches. The surfing, body boarding and sailing on the Vendee’s Atlantic coastline are some of the best.

Go-karts, jet skis, banana boats, horse riding, golf, endless cycle paths and fishing is all available nearby. There are plenty of opportunities for days out with kids of all ages, such as adventure playgrounds, high wire courses, water parks, aquarium, zoo, and much more. Puy de Fou, France’s unmissable showcase attraction is just an hour away.

Finally, of course, the famous Loire Valley vineyards are never too far away.

All together, this makes for an absolutely fantastic family holiday with children of all ages, or for anyone wanting to explore the beautiful Vendee region.
