Local Area
The Chalet is situated approx. 40 mins. drive from Bergerac airport, where there is car hire available. The roads in this area are less busy than in Britain, even in peak holiday times, so driving is more of a pleasure. Ryanair, Flybe, easyJet, BA and bmi baby operate flights to Bergerac.
There is a doctor, dentist, pharmacy, bank, food shops, restaurants, post office, train station and Tourist Information office at Le Buisson-de-Cadouin.
There is also a very good market held in Le Buisson on a Friday morning, & in peak season there are evening markets held here. These markets give you the chance to 'try and buy' some of the delicious foods and wines of the area. Duck, goose, porcine mushrooms, walnuts, nut cake, honey, fruits, chestnuts, & cheeses, and many more non-foods, too numerous to mention. Lovely.
The Dordogne is an area well known for its beautiful scenery, vast historical interest, its chateaux, bastide towns, medieval villages, beautiful 'jardins' open to the public, prehistoric cave paintings, troglodyte dwellings & caves with crystalline formations, and of course its food & wine. But there are also attractions here for all the family, from play parks for young children, water activities on the Rivers Vezere & Dordogne, walking, cycling, horse riding, golf & museums.
Closer to the Domaine is the Abbey and Cloisters at Cadouin, afterwards, sit in the village square next to the Abbey, enjoy some food and drink and watch the world go by! There is also a Tourist Information office at Cadouin.
Within easy traveling distance of the Domaine, are the interesting Bastide/Medieval towns of Domme, Monpazier, Limeuil, Belves, Eymet and Sarlat-le-Canada.There is also a very good supermarket at St. Cyprien.
