Les Charmettes
Les Charmettes is a 4 star flagship parc owned and run by Siblu, and is
regarded one of the best sites in France. Situated on the outskirts of the
small village of Les Mathes, the Parc is just 3 miles from the golden sandy
beaches of La Palmyre.
The site consists of a very large pool area with 2 big water slides to keep
the kids entertained, and a heated indoor pool area with jacuzzi; all under
the supervision of English speaking lifeguards.
There is indoor entertainment (The Equinox) where all the shows take place
with full bar facilities. There is also a separate bar on the opposite side
(The Pub) which screens the big sporting events.
The site also includes a small supermarket, restaurant, take away, creperie,
launderette, hairdressers, bicycle hire, mini golf and tennis courts.
Locally
There are plenty of attractions nearby; La Palmyre with its glorious sandy
beaches is 3 miles away with cycle paths along the way. La Palmyre Zoo is
only 5 minutes away by car from the site, which is one of the best zoos in
France, so visiting it is a must especially if you have children.
If you like a round of golf there are two golf courses nearby; a newly
developed 9 hole course in La Palmyre (opposite the zoo) and set along the
La Palmyre coastline, and further up the road you will find the Royan golf
club, which is another excellent course with 18 holes.
There are some beautiful villages nearby that are worth a visit; Mornac sur
Seudre, a classic Charente coastal village classed as one of the most
beautiful villages in France, situated on the left bank of the River Seudre.
If you fancy a good cycle there are excellent cycle tracks along the
coastline right into the beautiful seaside village of Saint Palais sur Mer.
For day trips we recommend taking the ferry (the Bac) from Royan port to the
Verdon and cycling for the day through the forests and along the magnificent
coastlines.
Ile d'Aix is also worth a visit (ferry from Fouras) which is an island 3
kilometres long and 700 metres wide with no cars allowed, making it
perfectly safe for cyclists.
There is so much to do and see in this area that it will make your holiday
one to remember for years.
