Camping Les Vigeres

Camping Les Vigeres is a tranquil campsite set in the heart of the Limousin countryside; located in the southern Haute Vienne close to the northern edge of the Dordogne region.

It is owned and run by a very friendly English family who are keen to make sure that visitors enjoy their stay in the area.

Getting There

Camping Les Vigeres is situated about 40kms to the south west of Limoges. It is accessed from the D901 which runs between Chalus (on the N21 Limoges to Perigueux road) and St Yrieix La Perch on the D704 south from Limoges.

The area is reached by road from any of the channel ports by joining the A10 autoroute heading for Orleans then transferring to the A71 autoroute towards Clermont Ferrand and the transferring to the A20 autoroute at Virezon. The A20 passes through Limoges and junction No. 38 gives direct access to the D704.

By air, flights are available from many regional UK airports to Limoges, Bergerac and Poitiers.

Surrounding Area

Limousin is known as the land of 1000 lakes; wherever you look you can see a lake - a fisherman's dream. Some even have man-made beaches and restaurants that offer a lunch time menu du jour that is exellent value (plenty of evening meals too!)

St Yriex la Perche(10kms) is the nearest town to the campsite and about ten minutes drive, here you will find shops for all your needs, from the large supermarkets to small family run shops and good restaurants. There is also a fortnightly street market.

Oradour sur Glane. This village is north west of Limoges and a very sober reminder of the second world war. It has been left exactly as it was after being destroyed by the German occuping army. There is a museum and plenty of free parking. Certainly a very poignant place, but it is worth visiting by both the old and the young.

Limoges is the main city of the region, famous throughout the world for its porcelain and enamels which have been produced there since the 12th centuary. The architecture is a real mix but the centre is mediaeval and when walking around you will see so much more by looking up rather than down!

Aixe sur Vienne has beautiful river walks, good market and cafes and a fantastic pottery retail outlet.

Perigueux is the capital city of the Dordogne. It has many public squares where you can relax and watch the world go by. Don’t miss the cathedral Saint Front and it’s impressive wooden altar.

Brantome, just over an hour's drive into the Dordogne, is known as the Venice of the Perigord. Enjoy river walks, great restaurants and coffee shops, and a street market on Fridays.

Further Afield

Cognac – where the worlds’ best known brandy comes from. Guided tours are available at most of the distilleries with tastings of the Golden Nectar. The town itself is mediaeval and is very attractive with its narrow cobbled streets.

Bergerac – follow signs to the “veille ville” or just walk straight up from the main riverside car park. This part of the town (Bergerac Old Town) has some lovely streets and squares and a good selection of boutiques.

Poitiers – Futuroscope, located just eight kilometres from Poitiers is much more than just a theme park – it’s an experience which you won’t ever forget.
