About The Campsite
Camping Les Etang Mina is owned by a young friendly couple, Ben & Vanessa, aided by Ben's father Phillipe, and they have a young and dynamic team around them. The result is a really pleasant family atmosphere.
Although classed as a two star site it has much more than you might expect from such a classification. Facilities include a grocery and bread shop, bar and snack bar with takeaway service, swimming pool (with separate children's pool), children’s play area and entertainment in peak season for both adults and children. Our mobile home is a short stroll from the entertainment and bar area so if you prefer peace and quiet in the evenings, you will not have a problem.
The site is less hectic than some of the larger sites nearer the coast and has the added attraction of being based around three lakes, which are available for fishing (free July & August – small fee other months) or simply to enjoy with a leisurely stroll along the shady parkland paths that surround them.
About The Surrounding Area
Camping Les Etang Mina is situated in a countryside area some 15 miles south of Rochefort, close to the small town of Le Gua. There is a lovely countryside feel to the area with many quiet roads to meander along and the GR360 (one of the national footpaths of France) passes the entrance. On the other hand it is also close to many coastal resorts such as Royan and the family resorts of St Palais and La Palmyre.
Royan has many fine shops and restaurants, a lovely seafront and beach as well as a colourful yachting marina. La Palmyre, in addition to its safe sandy beaches, has an excellent zoo which is simply a must to visit. St Palais too is a small seaside town with some lovely beaches and clifftop walks.
Close to hand is the market town of Saujon with the river Seudre flowing through it, Marennes, the oyster capital of France and the popular Ile d'Oleron reached by a toll free bridge. La Tremblade with its port and oyster beds is not far away as is the town of Rochefort steeped in maritime history. All well worth a visit.
A little further away the charming town of La Rochelle with its ancient walls and old port, the Roman town of Saintes, the brandy distilleries of the old town of Cognac and the major city of Bordeaux all make for interesting day excursions.
NOTE: If you intend to fly over to France, we are just an hour's drive from La Rochelle airport where car hire can be arranged.
