Our mobile home has a bathroom with shower, wash basin, storage space and toilet. Hot water is supplied on demand via an integrated water heater.
The home has a gas fire fitted in the lounge area and is provided with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. The caravan also has a radio/CD player and television with a DVD. You cannot watch any local television, but I suggest you bring a couple of DVDs for those hopefully rare, rainy days.
A barbecue is also provided for your pleasure; please replace any coals that you use ready for the next guests.
Camping du Quinquis
Camping du Quinquis has a 3 star rating and offers accommodation in mobile homes, chalets and tents. The site is set in 20 acres of woodland park about 2km from Le Pouldu on the south coast.
The facilities at Quinquis include 3 swimming pools, with a leisure pool that opened in May 2005, a superbly run children's club and a highly recommended take away and bar. In 2006 they opened the new tennis court, boules pitch and volley ball court. For the children there are 2 sandy playground areas.
Local Area
The surrounding area is very typically Breton and reminiscent of the countryside and coastline of Pembrokeshire in Wales and Cornwall. This area of Brittany is in fact, known locally as Le Pays de Cornouaille (the country of Cornwall) reflecting both the historical links of the Celtic nations and the current rich mixture of culture and activities in music, dance, language and customs.
Places to Visit
Le Pouldu & Beaches
Le Pouldu has 3 excellent beaches – everybody ends up with their favourite – and there are often events here in high season. There is also a lovely beach at Pouldu Port. All of the beaches also have great rock pools, which are exposed at low tide. How many crabs can you catch?
The port has an excellent restaurant and a very relaxing bar overlooking the estuary.
There is a lovely walk to Posmoric Port from Pouldu Port along the banks of the River Laita. All of this is within 2kms of the campsite itself.
Clohars-Carnoët
Clohars is the nearest town with shops, banks and the post office. Clohars has the nearest supermarket where you can stock up on most groceries. The market here is on Saturday mornings in the New Town Square.
Doelan
Doelan is a delightfully unspoilt fishing harbour where you can enjoy a meal or a drink overlooking the lovely harbour area.
Guidel
Guidel is bigger than Clohars and Doelan and is a good place to visit on Sunday mornings. The market here has loads of goodies to tempt you. There is a great wine shop in the market square and a number of gift shops. The local supermarket has recently been extended.
Just beyond Guidel itself is Guidel Plage and Larmor Plage. Lamour is a wonderful place to sip steaming hot coffee and watch the locals take their dog for a walk.
Guidel is also recognised a as Surfing location
Moelan-Sur-Mer
Head for Moelan to visit the beaches of Kerfany, Les-Pins, Trenez where you can cross the causeway to explore the German gun batteries. There are lots of coastal walks from these beaches.
Quimperle
Quimperle is a fair size town with all kinds of shops and facilities. There is a good market on Friday mornings and the walk along the riverside by the stunning floral displays towards the daily fish market is a great way to see the town’s mediaeval quarter.
Pont Aven
Pont Aven is about 20kms north of the campsite and is famous for the residency of Paul Gaugin and his pals. It is very picturesque with the river running through the middle of the town. There are something like 35 art galleries and exhibitions around town so keep your wallet locked away. You can also hire small motorboats there for a river trip.
Concarneau
About 15kms north of Pont Aven is Concarneau with its fabulous walled fortress in the middle of the harbour. It is the third largest fishing port in France and a good all year round resort. The Museum of Fishing and chocolate shops are worth a visit inside the walled fort.
Places to Eat
The hotel at Pouldu Port is very good – the gambas (big prawns) are not to be missed!
There is another restaurant in Le Pouldu near Kerou Plage called Pigoulerie. Service can be slow at busy times but the food is good. A five-course lunch including wine costs fo under 20€.
For a crepe, there is one at the top of the road near the campsite and an excellent one at St Maurice about 2kms away. The creperie is on the riverside and you can walk along the riverbank past the abbey.
In Guidel, there is a good pizza restaurant in the town square Pizza D’Or and there is also a pizza takeaway on the other side of the square.
There is a choice of good restaurants near the abbey church in Quimperle and there are also good restaurants in Moelan.
