About the Site

Our mobile homes are situated on the Camping du Quinquis site about 10 km from Lorient in South Brittany. It is a British owned 3 star site set in 17 acres of mature woodland with some 1325 trees and shrubs (at the last count). This tree lined backdrop, along with the friendly and relaxing atmosphere and its close proximity to many beaches, towns and villages, provide you with an ideal place to experience a wonderful French holiday and all that South Brittany has to offer.

While the setting of the site provides a relaxing atmosphere and a place to chill out there are plenty of on site facilities to cater for your needs and to keep you entertained. There is a bar, which has recently been extended, where you can enjoy a relaxing drink and get to meet the other holiday makers; entertainment includes live local bands, karaoke and quiz nights. Next to the bar you will find a choice of three swimming pools, the larger pool to do some lengths, a toddler's pool and the recently completed pool (fondly referred to as the new pool) which has a small toboggan and 9 seater spa.

One of the most popular features is the children’s club, the Mole Club, providing fun activities to keep the kids entertained (if the kids are happy then we are happy). Another favourite with many of the regulars is the “Take Away” with Chez Claude providing some rather delicious special dishes at reasonable prices. Claude, now semi-retired, has worked at some of the top hotels in Paris and New York.

Other features to keep you entertained or to provide for your needs include a 10 hole mini golf course, tennis court, table tennis, bike hire, two play areas, and a sports field. There is also a small shop on site which can cater for your immediate needs, and laundry facilities.

Next to the camp site you will find a small animal park where deer, pigs, sheep, chickens, monkeys, donkeys, geese and ducks roam freely. Take along a picnic and enjoy a nice day out where the children can wander around and meet and feed the animals.

The campsite provides an ideal place for a relaxing and friendly family holiday which is encouraged by the site owners Andrew and Carole. The site office contains much more information on things to do and places to see and activities including walking and cycle rides, golf, horse-riding, canoeing, sailing, jet skiing, ice skating, Tenpin bowling and fishing. The problem some say, could be to fit everything in.

The South Brittany Region: Things to do places to see

The surrounding area is typically Breton and reflects its Celtic connection with a rich cultural mix of music and dance, language and customs. This, coupled with the close proximity to so many beaches towns and villages, and the lovely setting of the campsite, you are provided with an ideal place to have a French holiday, as a family or a couple, young or mature in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Le Pouldu, with its three lovely beaches and rock pools, is a favourite day out for many and is only 3kms from the campsite. It boasts an excellent restaurant for those who enjoy a good meal or for just €1 you can jump on the small ferry which takes you across the River Laita to Guidel Plage where again you can enjoy a bite to eat at an excellent creperie.

For the more energetic there is a circular walk round the River Laita taking in both La Poulde and Guidel Plage with some really nice scenery, which can be interrupted with a meal and a drink to send you on your way.

Guidel
Guidel is a fairly large town which is host to an excellent market on Sunday mornings. It has plenty of gift shops and a good wine shop in the market square where you can see traditional dancing on some market days. Guidel Plage is not far away where you can sit with a drink and watch the world go by or drive out on the coast road and take in the scenery and stop of for something to eat at one of the many cafes and restaurants on the way.

Pont Aven
Pont Aven is situated about 20km north of the campsite and could call itself the village of painters with something like 35 art galleries (Paul Gaugin himself was a resident there) and even if you don’t want to buy a painting you probably will. It is very picturesque, which is enhanced by the river that runs through the middle of the town. It is a popular place to visit with plenty of shops and places to eat.

Doelan
Doelan is a delightful, unspoilt fishing harbour where fish can be bought as it lands. A pleasant walk around the harbour, including a tree lined section, makes a visit very worthwhile, and you can enjoy a meal or a drink over looking the harbour to round of your visit.

Quimper
There are many other places to visit in the area including the medieval town of Quimper with its narrow cobbled streets and half timber houses found in the medieval quarter. Much of French life with its Breton influence can be found here with its twice weekly markets and ancient Gothic cathederal It has a good selection of restaurants bars and shops, and hosts the Festival of Cornuaille during the summer with a jamboree of Breton music, costumes, theatre and dance.

Concarneau
A visit to Concarneau is a popular destination for many of our customers with its historic walled fortress (Ville Close), noted for its display of colour in summer provided by the climbing roses and clematis proving an ideal place to shop and eat.

With so many places to visit the problem may be how to fit it all in.
