As you would expect of a 4* site in France, the facilities are superb. There is an excellent, reasonably priced restaurant which has regular themed evenings, a snack bar with take-away service and a shop (with fresh bread every morning!) Also on site there is a laundry, small library with English books, and internet and spot-wi-fi, both available.
But it is the new pool complex which is proving to be the main attraction Completed in May 2009, it is a larger addition to the existing pool.
Emphasis throughout its design and construction has been on the needs of families with young children. It has a variety of water features including a small island accessed by a bridge, 3 cascades, water jets, a whirlpool and it shallows to nothing at one end for very young children. Both pools are heated throughout the season. Surrounded by palm trees and with ample free sun loungers and pool furniture, it is an ideal place to sunbathe and relax with a drink from the poolside bar.
Froggy's bar and a full entertainment programme each night, means that there is plenty to do every evening.
There is a very varied Activities Programme. The children's club offers fun and learning for children over 5 years of age, with daily workshops led by the trained and enthusiastic team. They will be able to meet new friends and develop new skills, and in July and August the children prepare and present a show and also during these two months there is a disco each night for older youngsters.
There is a full sporting activities programme, which includes tennis, table-tennis, basketball, volleyball and petanque. In July and August there are scuba diving lessons and Aquagym classes. For the 4 weeks of the World Cup in July and August there will be live coverage on large screens.
The Le Pre Catalan site is situated just a 10 minute walk from a truly spectacular 8km long beach of soft white sand. Lidl and Champion supermarkets are just 10 minutes walk away as well, as is the village of Barcares with its bars and restaurants.
As well as offering easy access to the beach, the site is only a few kilometres from the lakes at Leucate and Salses where various water sports are very popular. The foothills of the Pyrenees and Mt Canigou are just a short drive away.
Perpignan offers excellent shopping and site seeing and is a great place to eat with numerous reasonably priced restaurants and bars. Alternatively you may choose to spend a day in Spain; the border is a 40 minute drive away.
