Le Pre Catalan Holiday Park

Le Pre Catalan is a 4 star site on the Mediterranean coast at the lovely little resort of Barcares. It is just a 15 minute drive to Perpignan and Perpignan Airport.

This is a small and very friendly site, owned and managed by Francois Galidie and his English wife Jenny, who is my sister-in-law. Jenny comes originally from the West Midlands so you'll have no language problems at Reception!

The site, just 10 minutes walk from a gorgeous, long, sandy beach, has superb facilities. These include a restaurant and snack bar with take-away service, a shop (fresh bread every morning), laundry, library with English books and internet access, children's club and a lively bar with a full entertainment programme for all the family.

A new pool complex was completed in May 2009. It is a larger addition to the existing pool and its design makes it very attractive to families with small children.

It has numerous water features including a small island accessed by a bridge, 3 cascades, water jets and a whirlpool, and it shallows to nothing at one end for very small children.

Both pools are heated throughout the season. Surrounded by palm trees and with ample free sun loungers and pool furniture, it is an ideal place to relax with a drink from the poolside bar.

Local Area

As well as offering easy access to the nearby beach, Le Pre Catalan is only a few kilometres from the lakes of Leucate and Salses where various water activities are very popular. For walking enthusiasts the foothills of the Pyrenees are only a short drive away.

Perpignan offers great shopping and sight seeing, and the Old Town is a great place to dine with plenty of reasonably priced restaurants. If you've never tried escargots, this is the place to do it. Catalan-style snails come covered in garlic! Salted smoked hams, richly stuffed sausages, salted or sugared flatbreads and nougat are other delicious local delicacies.

Alternatively you may choose to have a day in Spain. The border is only a 40 minute journey away and Barcelona is a comfortable 2 hour drive.

A variety of cheap flights can be booked direct to Perpignan itself or Barcelona - Gerona Airport (1 hour), Barcelona (2 hours), Carcassonne, (1 hour), Toulouse (2 hours), Montpelier (1 1/2 hours) and Beziers (1 hour). We've used all of these routes and have found them to be very convenient.
