A variety of cheap flights can be booked to Perpignan itself or Girona (1 hour), Barcelona (2 hours), Carcassonne (1 hour), Toulouse (2 hours), or Montpelier (1 1/2 hours). We've used all of these routes and have found them all to be very convenient.
This is a small and very friendly site, owned and managed by a French man and his English wife, who comes originally from the West Midlands (so no language problems at reception!). It is just a 10 minute walk from a large sandy beach and the site has superb facilities including a large heated swimming pool, a smaller heated pool for young children, a restaurant, snack bar with take-away service, a shop, laundry, internet access, a lively bar and a full entertainment programme for all the family.
Local Area
As well as offering easy access to the nearby beach, Le Pre Catalan is only a few kilometres from the lakes of Leucate and Salses where various water activities are very popular. For walking enthusiasts the foothills of the Pyrenees are only a short drive away.
Perpignan offers great shopping, sight-seeing and the Old Town is a great place to dine with plenty of reasonably priced restaurants. If you've never tried escargots this is the place to do it. Catalan-style snails come covered in garlic. Salted smoked hams, richly stuffed sausages, salted or sugared flatbreads and nougat are other delicious local delicacies.
Alternatively you may choose to have a day in Spain. The border is only a 40 minute journey away.
