The site is set midway between the beach and the village of Argeles-sur-Mer in a rural setting, with stables to the rear and fields either side, but it is not isolated.
Out of season it's ideal for those who prefer to make their own entertainment by exploring the highways and byways to discover the art, culture, sport etc., that the surrounding area has to offer. A few minutes by car or bike takes you to the village and the beach, or the little yellow road train stops nearby.
On site there is a pool, with children's section, outdoor cafe area and a children's play area. These are open from the start of June until September. A few hundred yards along the road is a supermarket with fruit stall, wine store and chicken takeaway which are all open from June to October. There is a small laundrette facility on site.
There is a new swimming pool under construction, which will be ready for June 2008.
A short stroll takes you into the old village of Argeles with its narrow streets and pavement cafes. There are also several supermarkets and a hypermarket open all year.
Alternatively, many prefer to hire bicycles here and explore all the little side streets – a healthy and leisurely way to get to see the maximum the area has to offer.
The Mobile Home
The mobile home is a 1998 8.30m x 3m BK model with 2 bedrooms, 1 twin and 1 double, and sleeps a maximum of 4 people.
The lounge has Satellite UK TV/DVD, an electric heater, and incorporates the dining area. The kitchen area is fully equipped for 4 people and has all cooking utensils, a gas hob and microwave/grill.
The mobile home has a shower room and a separate toilet.
Outside there is a wooden deck with table, chairs and parasol for eating al-fresco.
The inside has been customised with a comfortable sofa to make it more 'home from home' for long term use, as I use it myself from 5th January until mid March.
Pillows and blankets are provided, but you must bring your own sheets, towels, and pillowcases. Duvets for winter are available upon request. There is main drainage, and electricity, and hot water is by bottle gas.
The mobile home is available now, including Christmas and New Year 2007/2008, and from Easter 2008 onwards. The spring and autumn are ideal times for the slightly 'more mature' person to visit the area. The weather is usually quite good and the sun shines most days - even in winter.
About The Region
Argeles-Sur-Mer, Languedoc Roussillon, Pyrenees-Orientales, Dept 66, is situated on the Mediterranean just 40 minutes drive from the Spanish border and Perpignan airport.
This region boasts approximately 300 days of sunshine each year. The Pyrenees and the revered Mount Canigou tower as a backdrop to the resort’s sandy beaches. About one and a half hours drive takes you up to the ski resorts and every form of water sport is to be found here too.
Argeles has a magnificent port and is magical at night for al-fresco dining or just watching the world go by! If you prefer a more active lifestyle drive up into the foothills of the Pyrenees for rambling, paragliding, horse riding etc. There is an excellent golf course at St Cyprien, which is less than 15 minutes drive away.
The area has a strong Catalan influence so although in the South of France you will see touches of Spain - frescos of fruit and flowers painted on the outside of some of the buildings and the costumes of the Catalan dancers. From June to September Argeles has abundant street markets with local craftsmen selling their wares, bric a brac stalls, disco and ballroom dancing and shows of Catalan street dancing in the evenings. Many French locals do their weekly shopping on the Spanish border at Le Perthus or La Jonquera to take advantage of 'duty free' prices of many goods, including alcohol and cigarettes.
On the promenade there is a small funfair, several children’s play areas and a casino. There are numerous ‘eateries’ from pizzerias to gourmet restaurants and seafood specialities. The town of Ceret (cherry) is about 20 minutes inland where the cherry trees in blossom during April are a sight to behold. Visit its modern art museum, or the famous Salvador Dali museum at Figueres - less than an hour’s drive - and of course, no visit would be complete without a visit to Collioure, the famous artists' village
- just 10 minutes drive from Argeles.
